Got a vaccine? Get a food deal

If I were a betting man, I’d wager you’re going to start seeing more of these deals (side note: I’m absolutely a betting man). First up Taqueria 27. Bring your COVID-19 vaccine card to any Taqueria 27 location in April, and they’ll give you 10% off your entire food order. It doesn’t matter if you’ve had one dose or two either, just flash your card and grab the ten percent off deal.

Also in on the act – Krispy Kreme with pretty much unlimited free doughnuts if you’re a smart shopper. All you need to do is show a valid COVID-19 vaccination card at any Krispy Kreme in the U.S. and you will receive a free Original Glazed doughnut. The offer is valid until the end of 2021. Wahso half off deal

After celebrating their 20th Winter season in business, the Park City pan-Asian restaurant have a great deal worth taking advantage of right now. The Main Street staple are offering $50 off all meals over $100 through the end of our season.

I saw the offer via their diner newsletter list, here’s the small print from said mailer, “$50 off of your next meal over $100. Just mention this offer to your server. Valid through our last night open this season 4.10.21. Not valid with any other offer, tax, gratuity or alcohol. Offer valid per check. Reservations are highly recommended. Valid on to-go orders, must be placed via phone.

Menu updates

Taqueria 27 – Also new to T27 this month, a new surf and turf specialty taco available on the their Saturday menu. This premium taco is part of their daily specials program and will be different at each location. Check Instagram for daily specials at each location. One recent example includes a chimichurri marinated dry aged ribeye & grilled pesto shrimp taco, bolstered with garlic mashed potatoes, cilantro lime crema, pico and micro greens.

Tuscany – Act fast and you can snag this special on Sunday 28th and Monday 29 – a 14 oz. slow roasted prime rib served with olive oil whipped potato, asparagus, au jus. Price is $35.


Pulp – This downtown SLC spot has an all new ‘hops, vines and shareables’ menu which feels particularly Springy. New items include a farmers market flatbread, local beers from the likes of Kiitos and Shreds of Pale as well as bubbles, shandy’s and spritzers.

Tsunami – Just a reminder that every location of the popular sushi chain are still raising cash for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society this month, with a special roll. New news

Here’s a few more to add to the recent bumper crop of new restaurant openings. Coming to Utah soon out of the Pacific North West is the (currently) ill-advisedly-named Killer burger. It looks like we haven’t quite yet reached peak burger – Utah Business have the full press release where founder TJ Southard reckons they have, “the best burger imaginable”. We shall see, I have a pretty wild imagination…

Also coming soon, a brand new Mr Charlies Chicken Finger location, this one looking to land in Draper at 592 East 12300 South. You might recall Charlie’s sold a 50% stake in their business to Penny Ann’s Cafe earlier in the year, with new menus and locations part of the partnership-plan.

Lastly, if you’re feeling game enough to hit up buffets once more, the Standard-Examiner reports on this new self-styed biggest buffet in Utah. It’s over in Roy, it seats 450 and has 200 choices on a dizzying menu.

City Weekly takes aim at Trib

Flame wars are usually the purview of fast food chains, battling it out for supremacy over the best fried chicken sandwich. But local news websites? Check out the following broadside fired by City Weekly’s Twitter cannon this week:

No reply (best I can tell at least from) the Tribune as of yet – but weekly founder John Saltas doubled down on the scolding. The Trib recently reeled off a readers best Philly cheesesteak list and is currently taking votes on the best of Central 9th. One expects more toe stepping to happen as the nature of local media changes at breakneck pace.
